I've trained at Warrior Quest since 1999, and have enjoyed the many memorable training camps, seminars and of course, normal weekly training.    Being one who loves tradition, and ancient warrior cultures,  I have found a place to train that allows me to feel as if I am traveling back in time.   Then, with the knowledge of the past, I put the skills I learn into action in the present.

Because I work with Cirque Du Solei, I travel around the world to many exotic places.   China, Dubai, New Zealand, Korea...and I can honestly say that I have both sensed and witnesses danger in many of them.   The Ninja training I have undergone has prepared me to live life free of fear.

My quest to learn all that the Kurai Kotori system has to offer continues.    Although I have already attained my black belt, I feel as though my own training has just begun.   I hold the station of Chunin (sub-commander) in an effort to bring honor to the Jonin by helping teach future generations of students.    As Jonin often says, “Every journey begins with a single step”.   That is how I live my life....a new adventure around every bend in the road.

If you are looking for a unique training experience, Warrior Quest is the place.  Here you will escape the sporty mentality of “point fighting” and “competition forms” and discover martial arts as it was intended: as a way of protecting yourself and those you care about.  Everything, from the unarmed techniques to each weapon in the system is taught as a method of self-protection.  However, training is deeply rooted in the philosophy of magnanimity- responsibility for the skills you learn.  The way of the ninja is one of achieving your objective without conflict, and students at Warrior Quest are taught that strategy, adaptability, resourcefulness, and ingenuity will get you further in life than hostility.

Training has challenged my perceptions of who I am and what I am capable of.  In the past five years I have reshaped my body, become healthier, stronger, more confident, and balanced.  It has truly been a journey of self-discovery in an art that recognizes the individuality of every warrior that walks through the door.  The instructors are inspiring, patient, and always willing to spend the time with you to help you gain a greater understanding of a skill or technique.  In the world of martial arts today, where competition is often the goal, Kurai Kotori Ninjutsu instead encourages team work.  Training becomes a place, not for inflating the ego, but for cooperation in which students help each other learn and grow.  The result is a disciplined, positive environment for pushing your body and mind to their limits and achieving things your never thought you could.

When I attended a Kurai Kotori Ninjutsu class for the first time, I was immediately impressed with Jonin Mark Grove and his intensely vigil teaching style. I knew that day that I’d found something very rare in the martial arts community. I couldn't wait to jump right in. I consider it a privilege and honor to learn at this school. The system encompasses all aspects of martial arts training that I practiced as a black belt in other martial arts styles and much more. One of the things I like most in what sets Kurai Kotori apart is the way it makes one aware of individual strengths and weaknesses, better enabling one to improve in skill and ability. This dojo is of a traditional quality that is unsurpassed. My daughter is also enrolled as a student in the school, learning etiquette and skill in the patient and able hands of Lauren Melone.

After fifteen years and many mixed martial arts classes I found Warrior Quest, and Jonin Mark Steven Grove. Jonin Mark Grove's fighting system is a multilateral approach engulfing all aspects of the ancient warriors. Although some students tend to focus on individual pieces of the system, such as swordsmanship, grappling, acrobatics, or unarmed combat, Jonin encourages us to develop all our skills on all levels. Under the Jonin's teaching I have developed the spirit needed to face my own fears and personal challenges. Still to this day when people ask me "Why do you train in the art of the Ninja?", I never have an answer for them. For me I don't need a reason to become a Ninja, it is what I have been waiting for my whole life.

I've studied Kenpo Karate, Kung Fu and self-studied Ninjutsu for over 15 years but I never quite understood the techniques of it. At Warrior Quest, I'm learning the correct way to perform strikes, locks, body dynamics, swordsmanship, body conditioning, environmental awareness and much more. The atmosphere is family-like with respect given to both teacher and student. When a question is asked regarding a technique, it is answered directly and concisely. If a technique is performed incorrectly, it is clearly explained - usually through demonstration - I could go on and on about the dojo, but as with most exciting, extreme and blood-pumping life-situations, you have to see it and experience it to believe it!

The day I entered Warrior Quest and began my training was the day I made a personal promise and a promise to my family. That promise was to grow emotionally, spiritually and physically and then to teach by example. I’ve felt my own turmoil turn into triumph and my fears turn into courage. I’ve reached into a part of myself that I never knew existed and from stagnation there is growth. Honor means something more to me than just Webster’s dictionary meaning. It’s now a part of me.

The art of Ninjutsu is so effective and universal, and the way that Warrior Quest teaches it, is so personalized to each student's needs and abilities! Here, the student is trained as a whole person; with body, mind, and spirit. And I can tell already; height, weight, age, speed, strength, or sex make no difference in this art! Ninjutsu applies to everyone, and the training given at Warrior Quest has benefits to be found by all who enter.

The mystical aspects of the Ninja are kept alive through the teachings of the Jonin. He inspires each student to take their path and his teachings to their inner being, and by doing so making the impossible possible!
